criminal Gangs in Costa Rica have a general manager, gang chiefs, drug distributors, collectors, authority corruptors
Drug trafficking, traffic of people, car-stealing bands and swindlers are businesses handled by organized crime groups working as enterprises, said Costa Rican Francisco Segura, subdirector of the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ) in this Central American country Wednesday. The criminal bands in Costa Rica have a general manager, gang chiefs, drug distributors, collectors, authority corruptors, and people infiltrated in official departments, said Segura, mentioned by local newspaper La Republica. For Segura, these criminals are used to have a strong organization, similar or even stronger than the ones showed by legal multinationals.
Segura admitted this is just the beginning of a possible increase of crime, and gave an example with what happened at the local Intelligence and Security Direction, where banking frauds and a criminal net at enterprise style took place. The Costa Rican newspaper said this is the number one enemy of security in Costa Rica, a country promoted as the only peaceful country in Central America years before.
